Free Food
I’ve just spent a highly convivial evening collecting blackberries with the children. Sometime in the next couple of days I’ll start turning them into a mountain of bramble jelly, a product for which I have a great fondness, not least because my unspeakable offspring will eat it due to the absence of “bits.”

Free, sweet and fun to collect
But I like it almost as much again because I can gather the key ingredient free, gratis & for nothing at any one of a hundred locations within 10 minutes cycle of home.
The French countryside can be quite a bountiful place for those prepared to peek into the hedgerows and woods. Aside from a selection of berries and nuts, there are various gourmet mushrooms to be had in quantity (village pharmacists are happy to sort through the collector’s basket and remove any poisonous specimens – a sort of preventative medicine) and for those with a permit and a gun, game is fairly plentiful.
There is one form of "game", however, that requires no permit and little in the way of specialist equipment to hunt: snails.
Personally, I am fairly unenthusiastic about snails, lumping them as I do into the same category as McDonald’s hamburgers: perfectly acceptable to eat when the alternative is going hungry and greatly improved by the liberal addition of tomato ketchup.
My neighbours, on the other hand, are very keen and can be seen after summer showers working the grass verges with a bucket and a stick to collect the prized molluscs.
But not this year. Our mayor decided in his wisdom that the grass verges in our commune should be sprinkled – at some considerable expense, I imagine – with slug pellets. His reasons for this were obscure, but I like to think that they were twofold.
Firstly his return to office earlier this year was by the thinnest of margins (and accompanied by the faintest whiff of scandal that saw the votes being recounted by higher authorities and the subsequent replacement of a councillor closely allied to Mr Mayor with one who most definitely was not) and he may have felt the need to assert his authority in any way, and as quickly, as possible.
Secondly, coming as he does from the region of the political spectrum commonly occupied by the Socialist Workers Party, our mayor seems to find any act of independence distasteful and anything smacking of peasantry positively seditious.
Gathering sustenance from the hedgerow, therefore, does not sit comfortably with his philosophy.
I’ll admit that all of this is just speculation on my part, but when we went out this evening we chose one of the less frequented byways for our blackberrying. Partly this was to minimise the level of potential traffic contamination of the fruit (down to about one tractor every three days, in fact). But partly it was because we felt there was no need to draw the attention of Mr Mayor to our activity.
If he found out, it’s just possible, I suppose, that he might decide to have all the brambles in the village sprayed with Paraquat…
hello

Our Olympics
Hi-
My chapter had it's mothly gathering, during which we held a 'Red Hat Olympics'.
We had so much fun - laughing and giggling. At first they were worried they wouldn't be able to do the games. (Even had a few say they would be judges-- no way- had the kids as built in judges- impartial too)
My nephew took pictures of us all and made it into a video-- hope you enjoy it.
FLATTS HEAD TO COLLEGE!!!
When the college football season kicks off on Saturday, viewers watching the Florida-Hawaii game on TV might hear the very familiar sounds of Rascal Flatts' "Bob That Head." The song has been adapted for the opening montage of each week's game delivered by the Raycom Sports syndication network, which presents ACC and SEC games in 2008.
"We can't think of anything more fun and exciting than mixing two of our favorite things - music and football," lead singer Gary LeVox says.
The band, which also features guitarist Joe Don Rooney and bass player Jay DeMarcus, recorded rewritten versions of "Bob" to suit each broadcast, be it an SEC or ACC game. It's appropriate: Based in Nashville, the home of the Vanderbilt Commodores, Rascal Flatts lives in the heart of SEC territory. All three members, however, grew up in other regions. Gary and Jay are from Columbus, the base for the Big 10's Ohio State Buckeyes. Joe Don hails from Oklahoma, where the Sooners and the Oklahoma State Cowboys are both members of the Big 12 conference.
Rascal Flatts and opening act Taylor Swift bring the Bob That Head Tour to three different Big East towns this weekend. They play Friday in Cincinnati, Saturday in Pittsburgh and Sunday in Syracuse.
Churchgoing Jews?
My uncle recalled recently that when he was a boy walking with his mother through the streets of London's pre-war East End and they passed a church, she would whisper an urgent warning to not even dare glance at the building.

A study of Christ Church at Spitalfields by Leon Kossoff
She believed the edifice and its statuary emanated dangerous evil in the form of virulent anti-Semitism.
In her defence, there was real trauma behind her irrational fears.
As a child of the Tsarist Pale of Settlement where Jew-baiting was a national sport, drunken gentiles would break windows of Jewish households in her hamlet, on a regular occurrence. Christian high holidays - Easter the nadir - were even more dangerous.
Indeed, in the age of the pogrom, Christian clerics were at the forefront of anti-semitic rabble rousing and it was not unusual for priests, holding aloft crosses, to bless the hate mobs as they murdered, beat and terrorised the Jews.
A century on, Rabbi Naftali Brawer of the orthodox Borehamwood and Elstree Synagogue, Hertfordshire, is still all-a-quiver, when it comes to churches, with the similar anxieties as a naive, poorly educated Jewish peasant girl.
In a Q&A in the Jewish Chronicle last week he warned readers, "one cannot enter a church without some aspect of the church entering you".
In a cringeworthy defence of medieval Talmudic opinion banning Jews from entering a church (whether a service was being conducted or not) he did admit that, "at first glance this approach appears disrespectful and even disdainful of other faiths;" before offering up a contrived apologia as to why it would not be insulting and embarrassing for one to inform a valued colleague or a dear friend that, as a Jew, it wouldn't be fitting to attend their offspring's wedding, grandchild's christening or parent's funeral.
Meanwhile, my uncle has gone on to become an artist of some international repute. One of his best known works is a memorable study of on of London's visually stunning churches, Christ Church at Spitalfields by the architect Hawksmoor.
BRAD AND KEITH HAVE NEW SONG TOGETHER
Brad Paisley and Keith Urban have a lot in common: They're both singer-songwriter-guitarists, they're married to actresses, and they've each had their first child in the last 18 months. Adding to the similarities, they're duet partners now, since Keith joined Brad in recording a song called "Start A Band" for Brad's next album, Play.
Given that both of them have lightning-quick facility on the guitar, it'd be easy to expect the track to end up a speed race.
"It's probably not what you think, in the sense that it's not a blazing-fast thing," Brad told The Cleveland Plain Dealer. "It's more of a rockin' Eagles-style tune, like back when Joe Walsh and Don Felder would play those harmony parts."
"Start A Band" is one of four songs on Play that feature some vocals. The other 10 songs on the album, due Nov. 4, are all instrumentals.
"This album is a side project, and as artistic [as] I can possibly be in some ways," Brad said.
Both artists have had new developments in recent days. Keith has a slipped disc, People magazine reported, though it's not expected to put a dent in his touring schedule. Brad's current single, "Waitin' On A Woman," got a bit of a makeover on Tuesday when his label released a remixed version of the song - featuring Andy Griffith's recitations from the video - to radio stations.
"He was my first and only choice for that," Brad said. Had Andy not consented to do the part, "I would've skipped doing a video. The first time I heard the song, I felt like he was the perfect guy to be the wise sage who sits down on the bench."
TRAILERS CELEBRATE CD RELEASE AND BREAKING THROUGH
The Lost Trailers have released several albums since their 2001 inception, and they landed a trio of songs on the national country charts two years ago, though none of them quite made country music's Top 40.
Thus "Holler Back" has the band extremely excited. The single is in the Top 10 on the Country Aircheck chart for a second week in a row, an affirmation that their insticts about the song were on target when they first recorded it.
"When it came through the speakers in the studio, we knew we had something," lead vocalist Ryder Lee told the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "But what's really been awesome is being out at these festivals and these big shows and still playing the new artist stages and having droves of people come over and everybody as far as you can see knowing the lyrics and singing it back to you. You know, that's the power of radio. That's something that we never experienced before, and in that sense ‘Holler Back' is our first single."
It's also the title of the band's latest album, released on Tuesday.

But I had so much fun...
Crucified Frog
Another insult, but unlike with the Muhammad cartoons we won't riot or kill anyone. We are the easy target for people who want to pretend to be "brave" and avant guarde. Modern "art" takes no talent or imagination to produce. If someone really crucified a frog THEN you would see protests by the animal rights groups and apologies would abound:
VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- Pope Benedict XVI has protested a sculptural portrayal of a crucified frog, saying it offends the religious sentiments of Christians, according to a critic of the work. The sculpture, exhibited in a museum in the northern Italian city of Bolzano, prompted heated debate over the summer, when the pope was vacationing nearby. However, on Aug. 28 the museum directors met and decided it would not be removed. A work of the late German artist Martin Kippenberger, it depicts a green frog nailed to the cross, holding a beer stein in one hand and an egg in the other. Its eyes are crossed and its tongue hangs out of its mouth. Franz Pahl, a regional government official who has led a campaign to remove the work, told the Italian news agency ANSA Aug. 27 that he had received a letter of support from the Vatican Secretariat of State expressing the pope's sentiments. According to Pahl, the letter said the pope believes the sculpture "has wounded the religious sentiment of the many people who see in the cross the symbol of God's love and our salvation."
Thursday
Okay, so I just got back from lunch with my hubby. (late I know) and now he's off to work again at Roy's. It's been tough for us lately because we hardly get to see each other ever since he picked up this internship. I only see him when im sleeping! But I'm glad he's out there doing what he loves and not hate going to work everyday! Its so cute how he gets so excited before he goes to work because he LOVES his job that much! today during lunch he showed me his work uniform and tried on the hat for me and everything. Just like a little kid i swear! I love listening to his crazy kitchen stories. I wonder what crazy story he has for me tonite! As for me, I get off work at 5 and then I have class from 6-9pm. Bummer I know! *ugh* so tiring. Well I hope everyone is having a great day so far! One more day to go! *Cross fingers* :)

I think it really sucks that John Cena is out. Why couldn't it have been Edge? Well at least the Game Triple H is still here that's a huge plus. It looks as if HBK is back in action and I don't blame him Y2J did the lowest of the low when he hit Rebekah and had no remorse about it what a jerk!! I hope all's well that ends well.
